America Loves A Good Ponzi Scheme
Posted at 9:33 am, in: Congress, Federal Spending

All over the news this morning was Bernie Madoff’s silver car driving him to court. America seems outraged: “he ripped people off with that Ponzi Scheme. He deserves to rot in jail, then in hell!”

I don’t quite understand why they’re so mad. I mean, he only ripped off rich people. The majority of Americans seem OK with it when Obama talks about “taxing the rich.” What exactly do you think that means? But,I guess it’s OK when it’s The One stealing from the rich to benefit you.

And, speaking of Ponzi Schemes, what exactly do you think Social Security is? Let’s review: a Ponzi Scheme is where money from new investors (current working Americans) is used to pay off earlier investors (people currently retired)…until the whole scheme collapses, which Social Security surely will.

This is why I don’t get the outrage by the press or the people at Bernie Madoff. The guy practically shares a birthday with our social security system. He grew up watching politicians perfect this scheme and use it to buy more votes every election.

I have more respect for Bernie than I do the politicians in Washington. At least he has thrown himself on his sword in order to protect his employees. I guess there is honor among thieves, just not amongst politicians. You know most politicians would throw their whole staff under the bus to save their careers, whether they were involved or not. And, their staff would let them.

I’m not excusing what Bernie Boy did. But don’t expect me to buy your false condemnation of a man who is doing exactly what our political class has been doing for more decades than he has. Don’t pretend to understand the inherent fault in a Ponzi Scheme when you elect politicians in hopes that they can somehow make the social security Ponzi Scheme work.

There comes a point when people have to take responsibility. And, it’s time for the press and the people to take responsibility for themselves. If you’re so outraged about Bernie Boy, you shoud make it your life purpose to expose social security for the scam that it truly is and boot those out of office who propogate the lie that it can somehow be fixed and remain solvent.

Older generations, with the powerhouse lobbying group AARP, place the burden of their retirement on the backs of their children and grandchildren. This is dispicable.

Why don’t you redirect your outrage from Bernie Boy, who probably took nothing from you personally, and place it where it belongs: at the politicians in Washington, DC who buy your votes with the money they plan on stealing from the next generations’ paychecks.

  4. You have a point. I mean, investors willingly approached Madoff and then didn’t ask any questions. Nobody contributing to social security is doing it as willingly.
