Why I Hate Jon Stewart, Other Than He Spells My Name Wrong
Posted at 4:02 pm, in: Economic Crisis

Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a land very far away (Bristol, Rhode Island), I was actually a fan of Jon Stewart. I saw him in some movies, thought he was kind of cute in that grayed-before-his-time way. I even used to watch The Daily Show. Oh, how funny it was!

Then, something started changing (I grew up? Realized that today’s liberalism is garbage? Became the oh-so-dreaded “C” word–conservative. Gasp!) Either way, at some point he didn’t seem so funny, anymore. In fact, his program just seemed to irritate me.

I’ve barely been paying attention to the “feud” between Stewart and Cramer. Although, my curiosity did impel me to watch the “interview” of Cramer on The Daily Show. Why doesn’t Jon have Al Roker on? I mean, how many times has he told us it wasn’t going to rain and then it poured?

I could only stomach the first clip, and a part of the second. Then I got too frustrated and irritated to continue (yes, some people have suggested that I have anger management issues). Why doesn’t anyone stand up to this guy? Too scared of getting laughed at?

I just kept waiting for the moment when Cramer would lay the smack-down on Stewart who is a know-nothing comedian presenting himself as a newsman. I know, he always uses self-deprecating humor about how he’s not a “real” newsman, but let’s be honest, this man thinks that he is doing society some big service. In fact, he’s worse than most “journalists” I can think of, because in his twisted little brain, he actually thinks that what he is saying and doing is unbiased, whereas I think the people at the NYT and Washington Post know the game they’re playing.

I don’t watch Cramer, and I don’t care about his stock advice. Everyone makes mistakes, and Cramer is the least to blame in these current circumstances. What’s the matter Daily Show, couldn’t book one of the people who are really responsible for the current crisis? Or, is it that you didn’t want to because they have a D after their name? Or, more likely, was this a classic case of projection? You’ve been misleading viewers so long your own guilt drove you to focus the attention on someone else so no one could see you for what you truly are: an overpaid clown.

  1. With all investments, there is an element of risk involved.

how obtuse do you have to be not to see that. (not you Mo, Jon Stewart :)

  3. Applause, applause. Watching Stewart was the cool thing to do when I was in college–ironically, since I went to Patrick Henry–but now I can’t stomach him for more than a minute. As for his understudy Stephen? Well… insert *lip-smacking.*

  4. It would be interesting to see a different side of this and see Jon Stewart interview someone who is more responsible for the current crisis then Jim Cramer. The irresponsible home buyer living beyond his or her(for the politically correct crowd)means.

  5. What did he say that was incorrect? You don’t point out any untruths, you are just for the other side so you don’t like him. If you wanted to be useful you should list every point where you think he is wrong and produce statistical data that proves he is wrong. Otherwise you are just a blowhard.

  6. Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks he sucks!

    1. He’s not funny!
    2. He’s supposed to be a commedian making fun of the news, but then when it’s something he disagrees with he gets all abonoxiously serious and belligerent. (typical of the leftwing)
    3. He’s a hypocrite on many levels! (typical liberal)
    4. He’s not even intelligent! (he was way off when fighting with Jim Kramer, even though I equally dislike both of them)
    5. He’s indoctrinating millions of (impressionable, young, High school, and college-aged) viewers who actually believe what he’s reporting is truly news.

I could say the same things about that Colbert guy. I wish Comedy Central would just go back to stand up, sitcoms, and movies. These so-called “news” programs are really dumbing down and poisoning American viewers!

  7. P.S. I’m an Independent, and my views are pretty centrist, although conservative in some regards, with a little bit of Libertarian thrown in. :) I think this is how most of us are in Conn. – I don’t know why the media falsely characterizes New England as liberal all the time. We’re heavily Democratic but most of us are from the center with a lot of conservatism thrown in depending on the issue. I like your blog by the way. Take care!

  8. Ok this is really random but I came to your site by accident. I was flipping through the channels and saw Jon Stewart on and had to change the channel because he’s so annoying. So I googled “why I hate Jon Stewart” to see if I was alone. Your blog was the first response. So I posted on this page as you see above. Then before leaving I clicked on your “about me” page. Holy crap, you’re from Southbury! LMFAO OMG I was raised and live in Naugatuck (just got back from Portugal for vacation lol)!!! Talk about crazy, what are the chances of this… I guess it really is a small world afterall. Damnnn! :)

  9. Oh Please. Get a life. This is only lame site which says to hate Jon Stewart.

Why don’t you search on Why hate, Rush?
    Try the “hate Michael Savage”?
How About trying “Hate Glenn Beck”
    “hate Bill ORielly”?

  10. feel the same, his show’s lame. i always knew cramer was a joke, but jon is no better. he needs a target to make a show and fox news and the conservative is easy..

as a liberal myself, it gets tired watching him since the show has become much less smart, and more slapstick to try and gain some fox fans. jon, r.i.p. colbert ftw.

  11. Why don’t you go goose-step your way to the nearest library and look up “satire.”

    Psychopath.

  12. I find it funny that although you claim Jon Stewart is so bad at what he does… You don’t back it up with any factual evidence.

I recenty wrote a blog on my page on him and googled reasons why people may not like him. Yours came up.

You say his show & comedy is bad.. Well his show has multiple Emmys to say otherwise.

He’s slammed countless politicians, democratic & republican, Christian or Jewish, countless times.. Huckabee interview, McCain interview, his interview with Bill Moyers was amazing and showed his TRUE compassion & frustration with the administration & media..

My only beef with him is that he’s not progressive enough…

But next time you may want to back your rants up with factual support that will show support for your argument.. Because you just sound like an irritated conservative bitching about Stewart.. But you font show real reasons why

  13. The fact of the matter is this. Jon Stuart is a coward who attacks people for making mistakes in a very serious way. Then when people try to call him out on being a hippocrite he hides behind the guise of “comedy.” What a perfect positon. Critical of everyone, accountable to no one.

  16. Jon Stewart is a self-rightous, un-funny, pompous ass!

Heather, are you calling this blogger a bitch for voicing an opinion, right after you justified Jon Stewart’s idiocy with freedom of speech? Typical liberal hypocrisy? Now THAT’S funny!

    Comment by Jenny — February 10, 2010 @ 12:40 am

  17. Jesus Christ — all you whiny crybabies, here is a definition for you:

    sat·ire [sat-ahyuhr]
    –noun
    1. the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.

    2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.

    3. a literary genre comprising such compositions.

This has CRAP to do with being liberal, independent, conservative, etc., and everything to do with calling people out on their idiocy. Seems Mr Stewart should do a show on his UNINFORMED and UPTIGHT non-fans trolling this post.

And Jenny — Heather used the term bitchING, as in what you are doing, not being. Buy a clue.

    Comment by Desiree — March 1, 2010 @ 3:02 pm

  18. Desiree, thanks for posting the definition. Now kindly read it yourself to see why people are “whiny crybabies.” You make the standard shallow analysis liberals are famous for regarding the “It’s just a satire show” defense. An insult is an insult, and when it’s unwarranted, as most of Mr. Stewart’s attempt at “satire” are, there’s valid reason to complain. Particularly since disaffected youngsters like yourself probably get all your voting advice from this self-appointed political guru. The fact that you define his show as “Satirical” and that satire hasn’t “CRAP to do with liberal, independent or conservative” merely shows your blind bias. I suggest you keep a running tally on how many conservative issues he broaches OUT OF CONTEXT, vs how many liberal creampuff stories he brings up. I’ll buy your clue for you. I may as well as your socialist agenda is taking hold in USA quite well now.

    Comment by Snoo — March 2, 2010 @ 3:44 pm

  19. LOL Jenny youre a complete idiot. Heather didnt call the blogger a bitch, she said the blogger was “bitching” aka complaining in laymans terms. and where was it in the constitution saying that complaining about something someone else says is a violation of that guys free speech? isnt it our “right of free speech” to “freely speak out” against what other people say?

its pathetic that you attribute hypocrisy to liberals when CLEARLY both sides of the political spectrum are equally guilty of this. Jenny, you are a mindless sheep. you listen to conservative talking points and just go on to spew them all out for everyone to see. i would be just as critical of you if you grew up listening to liberal talking points. wake up and think for yourself. take everything said on the news with a grain of salt. do some independent research and then come to a conclusion.

    Comment by TheTruth — March 9, 2010 @ 9:08 am

  20. Really Ashley, hes not progressive enough? I think hes pretty damn liberal, I dont think he makes it a point to be a cookie cutter liberal. His job is to find the peculiarities (to put it lightly) of current politics. Ridiculousness in politics comes from both sides of the political spectrum, he just happens to feel that the conservative side is more irrational.

He isnt some political tool. Like it or not, he will call out both conservatives and liberals whenever they do or say something idiotic.

    Comment by TheTruth — March 9, 2010 @ 9:17 am

  21. Snoo, your comment is an insult to people who have actually survived the horrors of socialist nations. ever hear stories about Maoist China? a complete nightmare, and our current state in the US is nothing near as bad (in fact its an insult to our own America for you to think that were going down the drain. America wont die that easily)

You are a victim of the fear mongering of conservative news pundits. educate yourself and free your mind from the grasp of political hackery

    Comment by TheTruth — March 9, 2010 @ 9:18 am

  22. Aww Snoo, thanks for the clue buying but perhaps you should keep it for yourself? You make seriously postulating statements by assuming #1 that I am young and #2 that I am liberal.

For the record, I’m in my 30’s and though not a conservative, I’m also not a liberal either. I have, however, been called a liberal Republican and a conservative Democrat and a Left-wing Liberal. I simply define myself as an Independent as I don’t vote for party, but rather for the individual whose ideas most closely mirror my own regardless of the chosen party they represent on the political pie chart.

In other words, I’m not a sheep.

An insult is an insult — quite true, but I feel what’s more insulting than being called on the carpet for obvious and apparent stupidity (IE SATIRE), is to deal with socialist wankers who cry foul every time an embarrassing point is made against his or her political party (YOU).

Have a good day Snoo. Hopefully you can take your clue and a dollar and have enough to afford the ride on the short bus back to school.

  23. I hate Jon Liebowitz for taking the Scottish name of my ancestors and using it to hide his Jewish roots, one of which is his hook nose.If you think he’s sensitive about being Jewish image how he must hate being a 5-6, 150-pound phony.

    All this over one guy?

Well i know i get upset at glenn beck sometimes, but i don’t think i would ever take it this far.

Insulting one another, this isn’t debating, this is just….crazyness.
Can anyone just sit here and just say ” take it or leave it”. Simple as that.

  25. Hello, and greetings from the UK.
I, along with many here, am a huge fan or Mr. Jon Stewart.
I thought almost all Americans loved him because of his honest approach to news, along with his great satire.
He’s way better than all those Fox news cronies and that despicable Glenn Beck (bloody hell, he’s insane,) who says that God relays messages to him. As if! And Rush Limbaugh is a disgrace! Saying the oil in the Gulf is “as natural as the ocean water is”.
It makes me genuinely sick to my stomach that you all are attacking JON STEWART out of all of these people. At least he has a brain. His show is COMEDY, and just because you don’t find him funny, you shouldn’t hate him. This whole “I hate Jon Stewart” is complete rubbish, go hate someone who deserves it.

  27. It seems that the OP’s original message has gotten lost. Her point was simple – Stewart’s show had 8 years of making fun of Bush, and even if you were a Republican you loved to laugh at Bush, and it did so wonderfully. So when Obama was elected, many viewers were looking forward to the same level of humor, but what we are getting is repeated jokes about how Republicans are reacting to Obama with minimal jokes about the current administration itself. Now, there are jokes at Obama’s expense, but if you actually watch the show you must notice that they are far easier on the Dems then they are on the Reps. If you don’t see that, you are not watching the show very closely. Now, Stewart is free to slant his show however he wants, but if I may speak for the OP for a moment, what she found funny was the lambasting of the government, and that just doesn’t happen any more on the show as Stewart agrees with most of what the government is doing. I think this post has less to do with politics and more to do with the shows unwillingness to maintain the level of satire it went with before.

As for the issue of today’s youth believing that Stewart is actually broadcasting the news, those who have brought it up have a point. Of course, he will never come out and say he is a lib or a dem as that would pretty much erase a large chunk of his viewers. Keep in mind everyone – it is a TV show and the job of a TV show is to get and maintain viewers. As long as this show has viewers and is winning awards they will continue to do things the way they want. And there is nothing wrong with that. If you don’t like the show simply change the channel.

  28. John stewart is a giant hypocrit with no talent. Anyone can make the newcast (such as fox news) look foolish by playing half of a conversation and throwing in a wierd facial expression. Fox news backs up news with many statistics and clearly lists editorial sections of the newscast. John Stewart makes fun of fox news because he hates conservatives. He completely disreguards the factual evidence that fox news presents. Many liberal newscast use statistics from fox news proving that fox has a solid journalist integrinty

    Comment by Ben — July 8, 2010 @ 1:54 am

  29. By the way… Michelle G. above my comment has no idea what he is talking about Glenn Beck, although unusual, reports an editorial (clearly labeled and a discussion of personal opinion). John Stewart does the same thing as Glenn Beck. Although Glenn Beck uses fear to show his opinion, many of his statements are backed up with factual eviedence. John Stewart uses comedy and absolutely no facts to show his hypocritical viewpoints. By playing short clips of fox news and throwing in a poorly drawn (mostly irrelivant) joke with goofy facial expressions he is able to make anyone look stupid. This is a tactic that can be used in any situation to make anyone look stupid. Michelle G. u live in the UK and clearly are uninformed I hope u failed your paper cause u suck at life

  31. What boggles the mind is how frustrated people get over political ideology.one may make a grandiose assumption.that for the greater good and the enlightened society occurs only through the collectivist paradime. seems rational two heads are better than one?.the alternative reality may be that the greater good an the enlightened society may start with the individuals true motive toward benevolent behavior instead of the i should be benevolent behavior.old chinese proverb..”to read about it is to forget it.to see it is to remember it..to DO it is to understand it.these talking heads in the media influence people greatly.it seems WE make a grandiose assumption that they are smart.many are mostly window dressing.they don’t seem to embrace experience.i loved bill mahr and jon stuart a few years back.but they lost there sense of objectivity the cats out of the bag.i have come to the conclusion they are window dressing and most likely don’t have the capacity for profound thought.
