It’s not volunteering if you’re getting paid!
Forget the TV, why do I follow the news?
It would seem to me that Congress can’t seem to stop finding ways to waste our money. It’s a good thing I came to work today. Anything I can do to help the cause. The cause now being to work as much as possible, to be taxed as much as possible, to pay off as much as possible of the debt that our politicians keep digging us deeper into, in order to save your children and grandchildren money (because no I don’t ever want kids).
The House of Representatives easily passed legislation Tuesday to strengthen national community service efforts by boosting funding for thousands of volunteers in fields ranging from clean energy to health care and education.
The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, recently renamed to honor the Massachusetts senator’s sponsorship of the measure, passed the House by a vote of 275-149. Democrats supported it almost unanimously; a strong majority of Republicans were opposed.
The Senate passed identical legislation Thursday by a vote of 78-20. President Obama, who spent several years working as a community organizer, is expected to sign it into law shortly.
“At this time of economic crisis, we need service and volunteering more than ever. This bill will unleash a new era of service for our nation at a time of great need,” Sandy Scott, a spokesman for the federally funded community service program AmeriCorps, told CNN.
Point One: It’s not volunteering anymore if you’re being paid for it. Then it’s just a regular job.
Point Two: I’m sorry that Teddy Kennedy has brain cancer; really, I am. But, the only place this guy should have served America is in a jail cell for the murder of Mary Jo Kopechne.
Point Three: Based on the numbers, Republicans voted for this garbage. You do not stand for what Republicans are supposed to stand for if you voted for this bill. Stuff like this is why you keep losing elections.
