So, Ciggies Now Cost A Buck More
Since America’s favorite sport seems to be painting smokers as villains, it has become my favorite sport to talk about this. Yesterday, us smokers really got ours as the new federal sales tax on my precious ciggies went up in the biggest increase ever.
Point of a Gun was talking about it, yesterday, suggesting that perhaps we should start growing our own tobacco:
The tax on cigarettes are being raised today. To the point of almost being taxed out of existence. Anymore, the term, ‘Grow your own’ will take on an entire new meaning now that tobacco might be cheaper to harvest and cure it yourself than having to buy a normal pack of smokes.
I’m not that hardcore. I’ll just pay more. What I did pick up on, though, in the article he had posted was this little gem:
The largest increase in tobacco taxes took effect despite Obama’s promise not to raise taxes of any kind on families earning under $250,000 or individuals under $200,000.
Key word there: despite. Despite Obama’s promise not to raise taxes of any kind on families earning under said amounts was just broken. Who do you think will be disproportionately hurt by this tax? Ding, ding, ding! That’s right, people making under those amounts. I guess it’s all fair, though. It will be their kids getting the health care.

I’ll have a use for those hydroponic growing systems I had back in the college days again..

I am just going to start ordering my smokes on line. There are a number of places you can get them (imported of course) for as little as $20 per carton (including shipping).

I would advise against that. I had a friend in college who did that. They aren’t the same. They don’t taste the same. We both didn’t think it was worth it.
