Um, John, that happened like a week ago, buddy.

Is John McCain really just catching onto this story? He’s a little behind the curve on this one:

A recent report from the Department of Homeland Security is downright “insulting” to veterans, Arizona Sen. John McCain said Monday.

In an interview on FOX News, the Vietnam veteran and former Republican presidential candidate said the Obama administration owes veterans an apology after releasing a report last week suggesting that members of the military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan could fall victim to “right-wing extremism.”

Specifically, the report — “Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” — said right-wing extremist groups may be using the recession and the election of the nation’s first African-American president to recruit members

I’m just sayin’! I guess he wasn’t convinced by Janet Napolitano’s response when she said that DHS isn’t trying to insult veterans.

“The military is a part of DHS,” she protested (too much?). “We have the Coast Guard in our department!”

*Admittedly, this is not an exact quote. I am paraphrasing, here, just a tad.

She sounded like the racist who claims he’s not racist and to prove it tells you about his one black friend. Sorry, sweetheart, we’re not buying it. And, sorry Mr. McCain, but you really need to learn how to use the Internet. You’re only like seven days behind.

  1. So we just need to forget about things after a week? Kudos to McCain for keeping the story alive. Some people may be bored with it, but Janet needs to be nailed to the wall for this insane DHS report.

  2. Just found your blog from a Michelle Malkin link. Great! I vote hotness… Regarding McCain… he is completely irrelevant. Might be that his interview was timely, but no one noticed until you picked it up… Keep up the great blog!

  3. I’m not saying that we need to forget about it after a week. McCain should have been out in front of this. He should have been on the news talking about this last week, when the story broke.

  4. Here we go again with this DHS report mess. I wonder if any of you actually new that the report was initiated by the Bush Administration last year and it took until now for the DHS to produce the findings of that report. In fact, what McCain and many conservatives conveniently like to leave out is that the report covers extremists on both the Left and Right. Janet Napolitano was only trying to do damage control because all of the ruckus kicked about by Fox. She was actually saying that this report wasn’t targeting veterans as being extremists, but the extremist groups who would try and grab veterans because of their military expertise.

Ohh Yeah, before forming any more unfounded accusations I suggest you check out this dandy of a video:

  5. Monique,

If you ever want to know why Republican politicans seemingly don’t respond to you (until they do, more in a little bit), this sort of backhanded compliment is a perfect example why. Surely you realize that not everything needs an immediate response, and at some point and time the McCain bashing gets a little old.

Take it from someone who’s worked in the same sort of activism that you have: Those GOP reps are more than willing to help you with your message and your ideas, if you will only give them some room to breathe. We Republicans and conservatives have plenty of time to respond to a pliant Obama and his Dem Congress that increasingly is treating him as Chance the gardener. Not everything needs an immediate response.
