It’s H1N1, not Swine Flu. Get it right, people!

Federal Government: Please, refrain from calling it Swine Flu. At least, that’s the breaking news that Brian Williams led with tonight on NBC’s Nightly News. Apparently, they are afraid this might hurt the pork industry. Do you think they care I renamed it Pig Flu days ago? Oops! Don’t want to insult those pig farmers.

I guess I know why the federal government might be cautious with this. Remember when the beef industry sued Oprah? We should all expect the pork industry to sue the federal government next. Wait a second, though, I don’t remember there being a problem with calling Avian Flu the Bird Flu. What’s the big deal? Oh, never mind. Why do I try to get my brain around such complex issues?

How retarded does the government think we are? I don’t eat pork, generally, but at no point during this “health crisis” did I think that there was a problem with contaminated pork. Whatever this is, it is my understanding that it is a virus that mutated and is now spreading human to human. That’s the scary part.

Perhaps they should be more worried about intensifying their “passive surveillance” efforts? It would just seem to me that there is more important information to get out to the public and more important actions our useless federal government could be taking than to worry about renaming a flu virus.

Never mind. This is just another example of why the federal government should be shrunk down to size. No matter what the crisis, or which agency was designed years ago to solve it, as per usual, the federal government proves to be useless. Calling it H1N1 is really going to help address the issue.

UPDATE: I find this all so amusing. Apparently, Thailand is calling it Mexican Flu and Isreal said they are doing the same. Now, I know that our Mexican loving leaders would never support this plan. Possible pandemic? What should we do? Worry about what to call it, of course!

It’s Swine Flu. Too late in the game to rename it, now. Everyone is already calling it that. Except for me, of course, I’m still calling it Pig Flu.

  2. [...] Monique Stewart is not terribly impressedIf It’s with how our government seems a lot more concerned about what they’re calling the Unnamed Flu of Some Concern than they are about actually doing anything useful to stop more of it coming in from Mexico. [...]
