This is NYC, not MTV.

It baffles the mind that no one thought that this might be a bad idea:

A White House official apologized Monday after he OK’d a large aircraft to fly low over Manhattan — a sight that sent people reminded of 9/11 running in fear.

“I was here on 9/11,” said iReporter Tom Kruk, who saw the plane as he was getting coffee Monday morning and snapped a photo. Kruk called the sight of the aircraft low in the sky “unsettling.”

The huge aircraft, which functions as Air Force One when the president is aboard, was taking part in a classified, government-sanctioned photo shoot, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

“Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision,” said Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office. “While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption.”

Considering that arrangements had to be made between the White House, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Navy, at the very least, I’m going to venture the guess that there were many different people involved with this. Did none of them think this might be a bad plan?

It is arguable whether the proper local authorities in New York and New Jersey were notified, especially when considering NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is claiming ignorance of the whole matter. For our purposes, let’s just say someone was notified. Again, did no one think this might not be the greatest idea?

How oblivious do you have to be to the terror that consumed NYC on September 11, 2001 to make such a careless choice? What a bunch of insensitve morons! All for a photo shoot? Why? To show off Air Force One?

With our apologist president, it’s very likely another terrorist attack will happen on American soil. The citizens of NYC don’t need to be terrorized by the Celebrity-in-Chief’s next magazine layout. Save showing off your ride for the next episode of Cribs.

  1. I was there (I’m quoted there in the CNN story), and I must say this was so dumb that it shakes your confidence in the people who are in government… If they are capable of such dumb decisions, they shouldn’t be working for the president.
