This just in: Obama is “comfortable with public displays of religion:”

He’s done it while talking about abortion and the Middle East, even the economy. The references serve at once as an affirmation of his faith and a rebuke against a rumor that persists for some to this day.

As president, Barack Obama has mentioned Jesus Christ in a number of high-profile public speeches — something his predecessor George W. Bush rarely did in such settings, even though Bush’s Christian faith was at the core of his political identity. In his speech Thursday in Cairo, Obama told the crowd that he is a Christian and mentioned the Islamic story of Isra, in which Moses, Jesus and Mohammed joined in prayer.

At the University of Notre Dame on May 17, Obama talked about the good works he’d seen done by Christian community groups in Chicago. “I found myself drawn — not just to work with the church but to be in the church,” Obama said. “It was through this service that I was brought to Christ.”

And a month before that, Obama mentioned Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount at Georgetown University to make the case for his economic policies. Obama retold the story of two men, one who built his house on a pile of sand and the other who built his on a rock: “We cannot rebuild this economy on the same pile of sand,” Obama said. “We must build our house upon a rock.”

More than four months into the Obama presidency, a picture is emerging of a chief executive who is comfortable with public displays of his religion — although he has also paid tribute to other faiths and those he called “nonbelievers” during his inaugural address.

I usually like Politico, a lot. It’s one of my main sources of news, since I started blogging, but this piece is just pure garbage. First, note how they are careful not to repeat the rumor they hint at in the first paragraph. What’s the rumor? That he’s a Muslim and has Muslim roots? Well, that’s not exactly a rumor. he may not be a practicing Muslim now, but he himself has advertised his Muslim roots since taking office.

One of the reasons Bush rarely mentioned Jesus Christ, or used his religious faith for political expediency as Obama does, was because the press would have crucified him with calls for the separation of church and state. Obama is untouchable, though. The MSM views his references to his Christian faith and Jesus Christ as nothing more than a political ploy to win over the Christian base.

Let me reiterate: just because someone claims to be something doesn’t mean they are whatever it is they claim to be. I could claim to be a Democrat. That doesn’t make it so. Obama can claim to be a Christian, but that doesn’t make it so. Would a true Christian support abortion on demand? Would a true Christian support discarding babies born alive after botched abortions and leaving them to die in an empty hospital room? Somehow, I just don’t think so. A true Christian would not put a woman’s “right to choose” before one of God’s most sacred creation’s right to life.

And, as for Obama mentioning Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount at Georgetown University, would that have been the same speech during which the administration allegedly had a cross and a Catholic religious monogram covered up? I’m just wondering.

Barack Obama claims to be a Christian. Meghan McCain claims to be a Republican. And, the MSM claim to be objective. That doesn’t make it so.

  1. “I could claim to be a Democrat.”
Sure, where ‘democrat’ means someone who supports the concept of voting.
It’s like the word ‘liberal’ when it comes to symbols that have had the meaning flogged out of them.

  3. In addition, Obama was completely inaccurate on trying to tie the three figureheads of Islam, Christianity and Judaism together in his Isra example. From National Review on June 4:

Obama’s Cairo discourse fits perfectly into his agenda. It flatters Muslim sensibilities and expresses the Muslim view of historical tolerance and cultural superiority over infidel civilizations. When Obama mentioned the “Isra” event, he referred to Muhammad’s ascension to heaven and his return in one night on a winged mule named Buraq. There he greets two Muslim prophets, Moses and Jesus/Isa, who are not the biblical figures. The image used here by the American president as a symbolic interfaith reconciliation between the three faiths is a meeting between three Muslim prophets and not the figureheads of the three monotheistic religions. Besides, the Isra event is not recognised by non-Muslims, and it didn’t happen in Jerusalem, as this name does not appear once in the Koran.

  4. Spot-on. Unlike Miss McCain who appears to be simply immature, our Fearless Leader is a Committed Leftist and what he and others of his ilk are doing is employing a standard tactic of the Left: The Big Lie. From the Wikipedia entry:

The phrase was also used in a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler’s psychological profile:

‘His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.’
    [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Lie#Used_in_Hitler.27s_psychological_profile]

Sounds like our Messiah. Now, it must be said: the President is no Hitler, but, like that paper-hangering SOB and like Lenin, Stalin, Alinsky, etc., he has used, and will continue to use, this tactic to achieve his ends. It is a standard play in the Leftist playbook and Obama is the Man With THE ANSWER [Immanentize The Eschaton].

PS: Pundette is right: You are on a roll–don’t stop.

  5. Saddam has “weapons of mass destruction”, and we know where they are. Undefined to this day. Does that catch phrase apply to firecrackers that cause mass destruction if imbedded in an ear canal, or does it start at M-80’s and go up from there? And where did they go to, since thier location was claimed to be known? Talk about The Big Lie! You’re so full of S__T, I can smell you from here. Try thinking for yourself, you’ll be amazed at the propaganda that is being force-fed to all of us;from both sides. Good Luck to you!
