If you believe a poll without reviewing the actual data then you probably believe in global warming and the poll’s finding that six in 10 Americans support the “cap and trade” bill on Capitol Hill:
Six in 10 Americans support a “cap and trade” proposal to cut pollution, according to a new national poll.
Sixty percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey say they favor “cap and trade,” a Democratic sponsored plan in which the federal government would limit the amount of greenhouse gases that companies could produce in their factories or power plants. Thirty-seven percent oppose the proposal, which would penalize companies that exceed greenhouse gas limits with fines or by making those businesses pay money to other companies that producer smaller amounts of pollution.
The poll’s release Tuesday morning comes as the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works holds a hearing on new “cap and trade” legislation. The bill, sponsored by committee chairwoman Barbara Boxer, D-California and Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts), includes provisions to hold down costs to consumers and certain industries. Republicans say the bill would destroy jobs and increase taxes and energy costs for average Americans. The House of Representatives passed a “cap and trade” bill this summer along a party-line vote.
I never trust polls. There are too many tricks of the trade that can alter the results and these results can be twisted to support anything, if that is the goal. I have studied polling and know how easy it is to manipulate the poll in order to produce the desired “data.” In this day and age, I’m not quite sure why they didn’t post the full survey in order to eliminate any speculation that these findings are misleading or wrong unless they have something to hide. They clearly had the capability of posting the complete survey with questions and results as a PDF file, but chose instead to only link to the one question that supports their claim that six in 10 Americans support this monstrous bill. Did the questions that came before it predispose the person taking the survey to support the bill? Who knows?
Once again, we find ourselves in a debate about a general idea of a bill without asking the real question: does our government have the constitutional right and authority to pass this bill? Probably not. Lucky for those elite legislators in DC, they don’t have to worry about the American people asking that question because most of them couldn’t tell you what the Constitution says or means. How many Americans think that there is actually a right to privacy stated in the Bill of Rights? Too many.
I doubt that this many Americans would be supportive of the bill if they knew what it will cost us. People cannot really voice their support for something unless they fully understand what the consequences are. It sounds great to limit those bad greenhouse gases we have been told cause global warming and are ruining the planet, but not if that will break our economy and lower our standard of living and not even make a difference in combating global warming.
This is just another horrendous bill proposed by the most radical president and Congress this country has ever seen. Global warming, or climate change or whatever else people are calling it these days, hasn’t even been scientifically proven. In fact, most data is showing a global cooling trend. But, facts be damned! We wouldn’t want Al Gore to lose out on all the money he stands to make if this monstrosity passes (yeah, because he got in on the ground level and will be making money off the sale of carbon offset credits).
The timing of this poll is amazing, too. I wonder if they would have released the findings today if the results indicated that the majority of Americans opposed this bill. I mean, if it didn’t support CNN’s blatant ideological slant, would these findings be treated as breaking news or would they have been ignored and swept under the rug? Never mind. The poll was probably rigged to support their ideological slant. Oh wait, I forgot, FOX is the only illegitimate news source with an ideological slant. (HAHAHAHA!)
This bill is bad for America and, even if global warming is real, it will do nothing to solve the problem. This will cause energy prices to skyrocket. That, along with the added costs of health care “reform” and your average American citizen is going to feel the impact on their wallet. I’m sure they’ll be really excited about that. So much for not taxing those who make under $250,000 a year. But, of course, Obama will blame the energy companies for the higher prices and not his government power-grabbing bill. I just hope the American people are wise enough to see through his deception.
