NY23’s Message to Republican leaders: Democrat-Lite is not a winning strategy!
I set up a Google alert on Meghan McCain, so I can catch every stupid mistake she makes and expose it. I know, my fixation on Miss McCain is probably unhealthy, but what do I care? My smoking and drinking habits are probably unhealthy, too, but that doesn’t stop me from lighting up a ciggy while drinking a beer.
My first Google alert came today. To my own amusement, my post from the other day was second on the list, with Stacy McCain’s post about our “cat-fight” came up a couple down from that, but it was what was in between those two listings that caught my eye:
The thing the Republican party needs to remember here, and especially in the NY-23 race, is that they can claim no credit for these victories. In fact, in the NY-23 race, Doug Hoffman will have won in spite of the GOP. It should be sending a pretty clear message to the Republicans like Meghan McCain who like to say that Americans want a “moderate”, Democrat-lite version of the GOP. Democrats haven’t won in NY-23 in over 110 years, and yet here they are, contenders to take the seat because the GOP decided to go for a Republican that would surely get the Meghan McCain stamp of approval. What does that tell you? Abandoning conservative principles to get liberals in the media to like you does not win you voters, and it’s a testament to Doug Hoffman, not the GOP, that he could walk away tonight victorious.
It is true that Doug Hoffman lost the election last night (the paragraph above was posted while a Hoffman win was still being projected), but all was not lost. As Cassy points out, Hoffman’s surge in that race, the complete knock out of Dede Scozzafava, and the close final numbers have proven that the American people do not want the Republican Party to be Democrat-Lite. Dede withdrew because she knew she was going to lose miserably as some no-name conservative swooped in to take the race.
Can you imagine what Doug Hoffman could have accomplished in this race if he had the full backing of the Republican Party? We will never know because the RNCC and the beltway elites put their money and support behind Scozzafava, but I would assume that NY23 would have been placed in the “win” column for Reps. Unfortunately, they have moved so far away from the principles they claim to believe in that they can’t even recognize them in another. So sad.
And, this is just one of the many reasons why I dislike Meghan McCain. Since she started opening her mouth about politics, rather than while on her knees for some man she just met on the subway, she has been urging the GOP to become more like the Democrats. I have warned before, as has history, that when the public doesn’t get a true option and see the fundamental differences between the two parties, the Democrats win.
Republicans have lost their way. I don’t know exactly when, maybe it was the election of George W. Bush with his garbage “compassionate conservatism,” I’m not sure. All I know is that I was taught the Republican Party was the conservative party, and I supported them because my views had started leaning conservative. Interestingly, I have never considered them conservative, which is probably why I consider myself independent and don’t associate with either party. I think they’re both corrupt and neither represent me or what I believe is best for America.
Unlike that windbag Meghan McCain, and her father and most of the rest of the Republican establishment, I have understood that if the Republican Party wants to re-establish itself and succeed based on its own agenda, rather than just opposing the Democrat’s agenda, they’ll have to return to the conservatism they are supposed to stand for. Get government out of our lives, lower our taxes, and protect us from domestic and foreign threats, and maybe they’ll start winning, again. Everyone is talking about the wins they scored, yesterday. Those wins won’t mean a thing if they squander the opportunity by not practicing what they preached and by acting as if there were a D after their names instead of an R.
Hoffman’s narrow defeat is speaking volumes. If the GOP needs an interpreter, there are plenty of us here. This might sound like a revolutionary strategy, but we have an idea that we can test out in 2010: pick and support candidates that stand for the principles the Republic Party is supposed to stand for. If the MSM hates a candidate, all the more reason Republicans should back them. Stop following the plays written by the left. If the left is fawning over or defending a Republican it is only because that Republican is not a threat to them. If Republicans continue to take their strategy for victory from their enemy they will only be ensuring their perpetual defeat.
