Marko Moulistsas: Conservatives are cowards. HotMES: Um, not so much, sweetheart.
Marko Moulistsas clearly doesn’t understand my concern:
American liberals are tough on terrorists and secure in their knowledge that the Sept. 11 conspirators are guilty of mass murder. American conservatives are timid cowards who fear that the U.S. government can’t actually prove that the Sept. 11 killers committed their heinous crimes. Sound weird?
Maybe. But what else can be concluded after watching conservatives collectively lose their heads over President Barack Obama’s easy decision to try Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other co-conspirators in U.S. District Court in New York City? Seems that macho conservatives are terrified of shackled terrorists in orange jumpsuits and the United States Constitution.
Although, I do think that an American jury is capable of finding this terrorist guilty, I have a problem with trying him as a criminal, instead of a terrorist, affording him the same rights as an American citizen, and putting him in a civil court where our national security will be put at risk as a result of him being tried as a criminal and afforded the same rights as an American citizen.
As a result of this decision, American intelligence will have to be divulged in order to convict this guy. That will, inherently put our agents as risk as well as our national securities when our national intelligence collecting secrets are splashed on the pages of the New York Times or sent directly back to Bin Laden and the boys.
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 were an act of war, not a crime. As such, this man should not be treated as if he’s some common crook or criminal. But, yeah Marko, you tell yourself this is about conservatives being cowards and their lack of faith in their justice system (which, I actually don’t have much faith in, to be honest).
Is this your way of making conservatives look un-American? Whatever. While you’re busy doing that, I’ll just remind you, the terrorists are busy plotting against us. And, by us, I don’t just mean conservatives. Trust me, sweetheart, they want you dead just as much as they want me dead. Don’t kid yourself.
